Samsung Olympic Brand Studio

Samsung Brand Studio

Interactive UX / UI Design

In the celebration of Samsung’s sponsorship with the Olympics for 20 years, Cheil Worldwide and 2x4 (New York) created the Samsung Galaxy Showcase at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in South Korea. With a theme, a pioneer’s playground, the space was designed to engage visitors in a creative playground. The showcase articulates the company’s legacy across various types of digital experiences including hands-on product displays to OLED displays-based VR experiences. Our team conceptualized the interactive installation to deliver a message of the mobile history and IoT products. As a designer in the team, I collaborated with my colleagues to propose creative strategies in implementing hardwares and visual guidelines that highlighted the user experiences of the design studio exhibited during the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

History Wall

Interactive Space

History Wall was a section within the zone called “Unbox Samsung” to visually and aesthetically display the chronology of Samsung's mobile history. Along with the other walls within this zone, Design Wall and Craftsmanship, Cheil directed the design and UX flow with the 2x4's architecture/design team, by implementing various technology solutions for consumer interactions. As a 2x4 liaison for Creative Technology Lab, I coordinated communications and created visual guides for the History Wall.

The brand studio was a two story architectural space with interactive experiences that the visitors can enjoy and learn about Samsung in various ways. Our team was assigned to design the exhibition space introducing Samsung’s mobile history. My role in the team was to translate our team’s ideas of the different technology solutions in visual assets as seen below.

Our final decision was made by aligning different hardware technologies with Samsung’s mobile phones in a historical order (below)

Living Archive Contents

Above the eye level where people can’t directly interact with the exhibition, we created an immersive experience displaying the timeline of past phones that led to the current Samsung’s technology we use today. My contribution was conceptualizing and creating visual guides of the contents to exhibit on the panels installed all over the walls and ceilings using projection mapping.

Olympic Heritage Wall

Interactive Space

Olympic Heritage Zone was located adjacent to the "Unbox Samsung" zone to introduce Samsung’s contributions as TOP (The Olympics Partner) for the Olympics. Our team's mission was to design an interactive installation to meet the Client's demand. Our interactive product was a digital emulation of the torch relay with pressure sensor functionality to simulate the symbolic event in the olympics. My role in the team was to present sketch designs of the installation while communicating with the design agency, Vinyl-i, Korea.

Smart Home

Interactive Space

Smart Home was a section in the design studio to introduce Samsung's newest home appliances to demonstrate its ability to connect and interface with a mobile device. To meet the Client's demand, our team created a media facade wall with a media table to immerse the audience in a daily life scenario experience to exemplify the value and effects of the products. My role was to supplement and create visual sketches including architectural drawings, user scenarios, and visual guide lines for the walls.
